It was a lot of work, but loads of fun. Since then, I’ve gotten a pretty nasty head, throat, and chest cold (flu?) and I think I am finally turning the corner.

I had tried to work thru it, including calls early in the morning and late in the evening, and that seemed to make it worse. To the point that I had to go to the Dr. for serious drugs. I think I am finally turning the corner. I will find out tomorrow since I am going to be working all day(after finally taking today off). Wish me luck.

We have been treated to people who are showing technology and how it has been applied to movies, games and virtual worlds and what you can do to help change the world.

At this event, I’ve had time to talk and work with people who have been working on movies like Tron, Tron Legacy, The Fifth Element, Castaway, and many many more. We also got a quick Sony studio tour. I also saw Ben Folds walk down the street while were at dinner at The Ford Filling Station. Pretty cool!

And at the end of the day we will have hundreds of practices which can be used to - dare I say it - “Change the world”!!

There is a lot going on this weekend as people think back to Sept. 11th, 2001 and the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and the Field. I was thinking yesterday after I saw William Gibson retweet on 10 years from now people will think back and try to remember where they were when they saw all the 10 year remembrances.

The best advice that happened immediately after the attacks was from the then President, George W. Bush. Go about your lives, go shopping, spend money, or the Terrorists will have won. The idea being that it was attack on our way of life, which is all about consumption.

This week as we think back to the financial crisis of the last few years, I am hoping that our current President, Barrack Obama, can co-op this mind set, and start pushing a message of companies need to start hiring or the economic terrorists will have won.

We are currently slipping back into economic problems. After the 9/11 attacks we all did our duty and spent money. The “Job Creators” took advantage of this to more jobs off shore even more aggressively. Profits soared! And then the speculators took all that value and lost it in the financial crash. We bailed them out with government debt (under both President Bush and President Obama), and now we are stuck.

So I say, if companies don’t hire, then our Financial Terrorists will have won!

The thought was brought up that there are three reasons that you buy a company:

1)	Talent
2)	Marketshare
3)	Technology

This got me thinking about the internet bubble and how companies would hire talent away from each other. This caused a great increase in people’s salaries. Now we have stagnate salaries and companies are buying each other, and killing products. This allows them to buy talent and keep salaries low.

There is something basically wrong with this picture.

I am taking time off from the world of technology to spend time walking around Ohua, but I had to tell you about a conference that you should go to. The vPEARL conference is being held by IEEE to support Virtual Worlds technology. Go check it out here - http://standards.ieee.org/news/vpearl/index.html . It is limited to 100 attendees and will be critical in the next generation of Virtual Worlds standards and ideas. It will be held Sept. 20-21st in Los Angeles, California.

Now back to my regularly scheduled vacation.
